KEYNOTE: BUILDING RESLIENCE AMIDST WORLD GRIEF As presented to Earth Scientists at AGU (American Geophysical Union Annual Conference) in Washington, DC in 2024. A talk covering moral injury, vicarious trauma and the emotions that we have “put away” in order to continue with our work amidst startling changes to planetary health. The second half of the experience offers grief circles to participants, in which they have the opportunity to share anger, grief, sorrow, numbness, fear, anxiety and other climate emotions with peers in their field. A deeply moving and healing experience.
WORKSHOP: BUILDING INNER RESOURCES FOR UNCERTAIN TIMES. An experiential and practical workshop for professionals and other change-makers trying to sustain their good work in the world. A guide for moving through deeply uncertain times, offering practices for developing the emotional resilience. Offering ways to move through difficult feelings like grief, disappointment, anger, and frustration to prevent overwhelm and burnout, with neuroscience-backed somatic techniques for healthy coping.
“I did not realize we would experience so much. It deeply filled my cup...Teddy was a great leader.”
“I will be able to better take care of my mind, which will translate in my workplace.”
“Very great impact.” -Participants
WORKSHOP: SUPPORTING YOUTH IN UNCERTAIN TIMES - FOR PARENTS & CAREGIVERS Children tether us to the future. And it is our job to help them feel safe in the world. Yet how do we offer security when the future is so uncertain? How can we speak with kids about the climate crisis in age-appropriate ways? Should we involve kids in climate activism, or will that place too big a burden on them? How can our understanding of children’s emotions help them to adapt? What does family-friendly activism look like? In this workshop we’ll explore answers to these questions with a developmental lens so you can show up for kids with wisdom and resilience in uncertain times.
“This workshop exceeded my expectations by offering valuable insights into child psychology and equipping me with essential tools to communicate with children of different ages about the climate crisis. The content was well-structured and thoughtfully presented, ensuring that every attendee left with a better understanding of how to address this pressing issue with the next generation.
I wholeheartedly recommend this workshop to other parents and caregivers who, like me, want to engage their children in meaningful discussions about climate change. It equips you with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate this crucial topic.”-Participants
WORKSHOP: WORKING WITH CLIMATE AND WORLD GRIEF IN THE THERAPY ROOM - FOR THERAPISTS & CARING PROFESSIONALS How can therapists, social workers, medical and caring professionals hold space for clients when we are embedded in the same enormous crisis together? Fear and trauma from climate impacts, heavy emotions, shame, anger, despair, loss of hope, and existential dread are common to encounter in clinical settings these days. And individual well-being is inextricably tied to systemic issues that profoundly affect marginalized communities. There is much to learn beyond traditional therapeutic training to hold space for world grief, climate distress and systemic inequality. Learn to metabolize and digest your own heavy emotions and to hold brave space for your clients.
WORKSHOP: NAVIGATING THE EMOTIONAL IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE WITH STUDENTS Educators are tasked with teaching the science of climate change, but what about the emotional impact? Many students these days feel anxious, depressed, and isolated as the climate crisis unfolds. This workshop provides a useful toolkit supported by resilience neuroscience that you can bring to your classroom immediately - full of developmentally-appropriate activities and practices for supporting students as they grapple with tumultuous times. This experiential and lively workshop offers conversation scripts, ready-to-use classroom activities, journaling prompts, expressive arts projects, opportunities for activism, and more. Develop confidence and competence in meeting these uncertain times with the students in your care.
“Excellent. Extraordinarily well researched with robust list of resources… I appreciated the recommendation for climate-related conversations with children/young adolescents at developmental ages and stages. I also appreciated that the presenter was a trained counsellor with a background in both grief and loss as well as somatic experiencing.”
