Somatic Psychology

I am an intermediate student in a three-year training program to become a Somatic Experiencing practitioner. Developed by Peter Levine, Somatic Experiencing is a unique body-oriented therapy used to renegotiate stress and trauma. Our survival strategies serve us brilliantly, however for many of us they are activating all the time, and draining much of the joy and “juice” from or lives. I am learning how to support clients to shift those patterns that once made sense but no longer serve them.

Simple practices from the somatic lens can transform your relationship with your nervous system over time. Outcomes can include experiencing more balance, aliveness & vibrancy, experiencing less reactivity, and physical symptoms subsiding. The process involves learning to notice body sensations and building awareness of the messages our bodies are constantly communicating. As these understandings become a natural part of your life, you can alleviate the physical and emotional impacts of acute or chronic stress and trauma, including historical trauma.

I am also a student of Somatic EMDR with The Embody Lab. From this lens I am acquiring a whole resilience toolkit based on the work of Stephen Porges and Polyvagal Theory. EMDR is an evidence-based modality that helps the nervous system rewire stress pathways developed from traumatic experiences. This cutting-edge training (the first of its kind) layers somatic therapies into traditional EMDR practices.

I am so inspired to blend effective somatic practices to help you find more freedom and resilience in your life!
